Walgreens and Florida A&M University College of Pharmacy delivers post-graduate training for a pharmcist so that they may achieve their professional goals, become a leader within the profession, and contribute to the Walgreens Company’s advancements in health care. A graduate from this residency program would have matured in their clinical experience and skills to provide and manage the patient care services conducted within traditional community or community-based specialty pharmacy practice sites.
The residency program is based in select locations within the Jacksonville, FL area. These pharmacy locations offer a variety of innovative clinical pharmacy services for the patients who are prescribed chronic and complex therapies. The pharmacists at these sites work closely with the patient and their healthcare providers to provide optimal drug therapy for patients. The resident gains insight on management issues that can affect the implementation of patient care services in the community pharmacy setting.
The residency is offered in partnership with Florida A&M University. This partnership allows the resident the opportunity to gain experiences in the delivery of clinical pharmacy services in ambulatory care clinics. The resident actively participates in teaching and precepting experiences at the College.
Resident Activities:
-Provide personalized, comprehensive care to patients with complex conditions such as oncology, transplant, inflammatory disease, and HIV/AIDS
-Assist in delivery of medication education to patients
-Participate in ambulatory care clinic rotations
-Perform medication therapy management
-Pharmacist-administered immunizations
-Perform patient centered dispensing
-Participate in community service events
-Design, conduct, and present a practice-based residency project at a professional conference
-Develop relationship skills needed in Walgreens community- based specialty pharmacy
-Educate providers and payers on specialty pharmacy services
-Development of collaborative programs to improve patient adherence and outcomes
-Enhance existing patient care programs
-Complete a teaching certificate program
-Serve as preceptor and instructor to pharmacy students at the site and college of pharmacy

Basic Qualifications
- Doctor of Pharmacy degree from a college or school of pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education
- Ability to obtain pharmacist license within the state of residency within the licensure requirement deadline
- Submission of residency application materials to Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS)
- Individuals must participate in and adhere to the rules of the ASHP Resident Matching Program.
- Certified Immunizer or willing to become an immunizer within 90 days of hire.
