Job Summary

Walgreens is looking for a Director – Legal Operations, Strategic Planning & Process Management. The Director will work closely with Walgreens Legal & Compliance staff and lawyers, vendors, and cross-functional team members, to stand up and manage Legal & Compliance processes and systems. The Director should have strong interpersonal, project management, and business process engineering skills. The Director will partner with Legal & Compliance leadership to identify and prioritize Legal & Compliance’s initiatives on an annual basis. Additionally, this role with partner with Legal & Compliance staff and lawyers to enhance critical processes, including but not limited to document management, knowledge management, department intake, and contract management.

Job Responsibilities
  • Develops strategies related to process and management of Legal & Compliance procedures and systems
  • Combines strategic perspective, strong problem-solving skills, and disciplined implementation to lead a team to identify the strategic, operational, organizational, and financial levers to optimize the Legal & Compliance function
  • Directs critical Legal & Compliance operations and administrative functions, including, but not limited to, knowledge management, document management, matter management, contract management, reporting, and financial management
  • Gathers and acts on input from stakeholders to identify opportunities to enhance Legal & Compliance operational and administrative processes
  • Leads and influences Legal & Compliance leaders to develop annual strategic initiatives to meet operational performance goals and align with Legal & Compliance vision
  • Collaborates with Finance, Procurement, and other cross-functional stakeholders to ensure timely and controlled execution of approved spend and anticipated investment
  • Effectively brings the appropriate internal and/or external resources together to form an effective and efficient project team
  • Influences and leads Legal & Compliance and cross-functional team members to execute critical, cross-functional initiatives on time and on budget
  • Engages Legal & Compliance leaders and team members to align on requirements to enhance business operations and rapid cycle improvement opportunities
  • Effectively communicates status of initiatives and/or critical information to key stakeholders, including but not limited to Legal & Compliance leadership
  • Builds trust and strong relationships with Legal & Compliance, and cross-functional, leaders and team members
  • Oversees and leads team members to execute goals and initiatives on time and on budget and provide exemplary customer service
  • Develops team members through thoughtful feedback, growth assignments, and learning opportunities
  • Displays high energy and resilience in ambiguous and fast-paced contexts. Role model for a high performance culture and agile growth
  • Stays abreast of industry leading best practices and brings them to the attention of Legal & Compliance leadership for possible application
  • Develops and leverages partnerships (and relationships) with internal and external stakeholders to meet business needs
  • Oversees relationships with vendors, including law firms and technology vendors

The actual salary an employee can expect to receive, plus bonus pursuant to the terms of any bonus plan if applicable, will depend on experience, seniority, geographic location, and other factors permitted by law. Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 6 years of experience in Legal and/or Operations and/or Project Management OR a High School Diploma/GED and at least 9 years of experience in Legal and/or Operations and/or Project Management
  • Experience developing team members through thoughtful feedback, growth assignments, and learning opportunities
  • Experience being a change driver within a law firm or in-house law department
  • Experience working with and influencing senior Legal & Compliance leaders and vendors
  • Experience developing a strategy and strategic initiatives that align with business goals and budget
  • Experience analyzing qualitative and quantitative data to diagnose issues and present solutions and alternatives to other senior leaders
  • Experience with legal technology solutions (including contract management, e-billing)
  • At least 2 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
  • At least 3 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross-functional team leadership.
  • Willing to travel up to/at least 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Legal or Compliance or partnering with Legal or Compliance business partners
  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 6 years of experience performing and/or leading project/portfolio management activities OR a High School Diploma/GED and at least 9 years of experience performing and/or leading portfolio management activities.
  • At least 6 years of experience managing teams of at least 5 across business units and working collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Experience defining/developing business operational processes, protocols, and best practices (for example: planning, organizing, and managing resources to ensure execution of business initiatives and proactively identify risks; experience in developing and implementing mitigation strategies to remove barriers to execution).
  • Experience defining, documenting, and communicating requirements for critical cross-functional programs and socializing across functions and governance structures. Ability to understand and synthesize regulatory requirements and work collaboratively with Compliance.

Salary Range$136000 - $231300 / Salaried
