Job Summary

Plans, designs, develops and tests software systems or applications for software enhancements and new products including cloud-based or internet-related tools for highly strategic and complex/high risk undertakings for the Walgreens Digital/Online applications. Plays a leading role in new software design and development. Typically assigned to Implementation activities that generally impact multiple components / processes and the work of own and several other units / teams / projects. Has proven expertise in software design, architecture and software and system interrelationships.

Job Responsibilities
  • Implements activities that impact the critical directions of the organization. Typically assigned to the most critical and strategic / complex / high risk undertakings.
  • Writes code that establishes coding specifications, typically for software programs and systems that have no precedent. Leads in developing the technical "vision" and design specifications for assigned projects and oversees implementation.
  • Interacts with internal and external peers and management to develop unprecedented solutions that affect several departments.
  • Uses professional concepts in developing resolution to critical issues and broad design matters.
  • Owns the development and rollout for an entire product, or large project. Champions process (Scrum, TDD, etc.).
  • Recognized internally and externally as an expert in the field. Determines leading edge technical / business approaches and/or develops major new technical tools.
  • Works on assignments / objectives that regularly require the use of innovation
  • Works on issues that impact design/selling success or address future concepts, products or technologies.
  • Evangelizes new ideas, technologies and solutions to gain acceptance from a wide range of audiences.
  • Creates formal networks with key decision makers and serves as external spokesperson for the organization.
  • Writes tech specs and identifies risks before starting major projects.
  • Goes above and beyond to reduce complexity.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 8 years of experience in Engineering, Software Engineering or related field OR a High School Diploma/GED and at least 11 years of experience in Engineering, Software Engineering or related field
  • Experience writing code for highly complex and strategic online applications, microservices or mobile applications
  • Experience in algorithms, systems, architecture and bits-and-bytes
  • Experience with programming languages important to the organization and has in-depth knowledge of Unix/Linux, C++ or Java or Node and Service Oriented Architecture
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and mentoring individual contributors
  • At least 5 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
  • At least 5 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross- functional team leadership.
  • Willing to travel up to 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).


Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology or related field
  • Experience working in an Agile environment
  • Web/backend Developer
  • Demonstrated contribution to intellectual property through patents in previous or current employment\\Experience leading in design, development and deployment of successful cross-functional projects in support of next generation web & services platforms
  • Experience decomposing complex problems into simple straight forward solutions
  • Experience ensuing quality of architecture and design of systems
  • Experience facilitating technical collaboration, increasing productivity and effectiveness by sharing deep knowledge and experience with junior engineers
  • Mobile
  • 8+ years of Mobile App development experience in Swift, SwiftUI, Objective C ( iOS)
  • 8+ Years of Mobile App development in Kotlin( Android)
  • Experience in Test Driven Development and Testing Automation using cloud based products like AppCenter, ADO
  • Experience in ReactNative Programming.
  • Knowledge of software engineering best practices including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build process, testing & operations
  • Experience working with Product development teams in translating standard specs to feature and technical specs.
  • Experience in building Design patterns, modularized application to help scale the code to empower and enable the development teams
  • Experience in developing iOS build scripts, Maven integration ( android), Branching strategy
  • Experience distributing Mobile app Application for Internal (TestFlight ( iOS). Google Playstore ( Alpha & Beta)) and Public releases.
  • Experience in lead the team to drive initiatives from idea formulation to design and implementation by developing apps at large scale.
  • Experience in driving cross product technical dependencies and drive conflict resolutions
  • Experience in building customer facing applications through resiliency and reliability fundamentals.
  • Experience solving a complex problem into smaller chunks and piecemeal them together to arrive a solution and communicate the same effectively to variety of audiences.
