This role serves as a principal-level technology leader responsible for the architecture, governance, engineering strategy, and operational excellence of Microsoft Power Platform technologies across the enterprise.
The position is primarily responsible for defining and executing the organization's Power Platform vision, architecture, governance framework, and adoption strategy, including Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse, Copilot Studio, and emerging platform capabilities. The role provides technical leadership for the design, implementation, support, and optimization of scalable, secure, and business-critical solutions that enable automation, innovation, and digital transformation initiatives across the enterprise. Working closely with business leaders, enterprise architects, security teams, development organizations, and platform stakeholders, this individual will establish standards, drive platform maturity, lead complex technical initiatives, and ensure solutions align with organizational objectives, compliance requirements, and long-term technology strategy.
The Principal Systems Engineer serves as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert, influencing enterprise technology decisions, mentoring engineers, and driving the evolution of platform capabilities through strong governance, operational excellence, and solution architecture leadership.
Location: This position is based in Deerfield, Illinois, with four days in the office and one day remote each week
Job Responsibilities
Develops and executes the strategic activities that impact the critical direction of the Technology work function. This role is assigned to the critical and strategic / complex / high risk undertakings involving activities to deploy, operate, scale, tune and troubleshoot server systems, website, app infrastructure and/or other systems.
Leads in design and implementation of major components of networked or other systems focusing on reliability, performance, security and compliance. Develops efficient fixes to ensure continuous operation.
Leads in the analysis of technical requirements, ensuring availability, latency, scalability and efficiency.
Designs and deploys software for server systems and associated infrastructure. Determines design and reliability trade-offs.
Builds tools and scripts to resolve problems and to prevent errors. Develops highly complex programs that establish and enhance standards. Develops the technical “vision” and designs specifications of highly complex projects and performs as implementation project lead.
Ensures that defects in assigned projects or programs are tracked and summarizes and presented to management along with recommendation for resolution.
Responds to and resolves highly complex service problems. Conducts software and system performance analysis and tuning, service capacity planning and demand forecasting. Reviews and influences standards and methods for operating services and systems.
Interacts with internal and external peers and management to share highly complex information / solutions related to areas of expertise and/or to gain acceptance of new or enhanced technology / business solutions.
Develops, or may lead in developing, technical / business approaches and new or enhanced technical tools.
Has advanced in-depth knowledge of systems administration
Demonstrates proficiency in all areas of the professional function and expertise in key areas.
Provides subject matter expertise to business. May participate in teaching and training members of work team.
Typically assigned to highly strategic / complex / high risk undertakings.
Shares highly complex information related to areas of expertise and/or to gain acceptance of new or enhanced technology / business solutions.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and at least 6 years of experience in a technical role OR High school Diploma / GED and at least 9 years of experience in a technical role.
- Experience in Technology infrastructure, such as Infrastructure, Systems, Databases, or similar
- Experience establishing & maintaining relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization, in the business community & with vendors.
- Experience identifying operational issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems.
- Experience evaluating compatibility of programs with existing communications hardware and software
- Experience mentoring less experienced team members.
- At least 2 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
- At least 3 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross functional team leadership.
- Willing to travel up to 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics
- Experience identifying the relationship of bugs to software code
- Experience developing design specifications, test plans and protocols

Salary Range: $150000 - $240625 / Salaried
