Join the Walgreens Corporate Affairs team as a Senior Manager of Retail Communications, where you will lead comprehensive communications and public relations strategies with a focus on Walgreens Retail business segment.

In collaboration with the Senior Director of Retail Communications, this leader is responsible for developing and executing strategic communications plans, with a focus on executive content, as well as serving as communications partner to project leaders across this critical organization. As trusted leader and advisor, you will lead end-to-end internal and external communications strategies and announcements. You will provide internal communications strategic direction by developing and executing employee communications and engagement activities in support of the company's business strategies and programs. This person integrates knowledge of business and functional priorities to drive key communications initiatives.

Job Responsibilities
  • Communications Strategy and Planning: Develop and execute comprehensive communication plans to support Walgreens Retail priorities. Collaborate with select senior leaders and stakeholders to define audience strategies, and key messages and ensure consistent communication across various channels. Closely monitor industry trends and developments to identify opportunities for enhancing communications and earned media opportunities. Provide strategic communications counsel to business leaders to drive performance in the business segment and its critical functions. Lead the development and implementation of annual communications strategies and plans for key business functions that are integrated with and support their objectives.
  • Thought Leadership and Content Development: Develop effective messaging platforms and thought leadership plans in support business priorities. Create clear and impactful messaging that resonates with both internal and external audiences. Develop talking points, presentations and other communication materials for executives that align with the organization’s vision and goals. Partner closely with executives to ensure the brand voice and executive voices are effectively conveyed and develop clear and concise briefing materials.
  • Executive Communications: Develop strategy for and execute high visibility moments with leaders for events, managing keynotes and other marquee speaking engagements for select leaders, including video script writing, social media strategy, content creation and execution. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent messaging and alignment on key topics. Provide guidance and support to executives during high-pressure situations and ensure timely and accurate communication with relevant stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder Management: Manages timelines, project deadlines, and client contributions and expectations. Coordinates with key stakeholders to ensure communications planning, execution and messaging is integrated and linked with company positions and corporate goals. Work with internal communications and events teams to identify, design and create materials and meetings/events that will deliver corporate and business unit messages to key audiences.
  • Leadership: Directly manage agencies and indirectly lead junior team members and peers. Masters relevant industry and business unit information.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 4 years of experience in developing, executing and integrating communication plans OR a high school diploma/GED and at least 7 years of experience in developing, executing and integrating communication plans.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams.
  • Experience providing counsel, influence and challenge to the thinking of business leaders.
  • Experience writing and editing in AP style.
  • Experience with project management (for example: planning, organizing, and managing resources to bring about the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives).
  • Experience leading and completing multiple projects on deadline.
  • At least 2 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
  • At least 2 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross- functional team leadership.
  • Willing to travel up to 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Communications and/or English.
  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of experience developing, executing and integrating communications plans
  • Experience in the retail industry
  • Experience in the indirect management of team members, including assisting in the development, training and assignment of work/projects to other members of a team.

    Salary Range$115400 - $196200 / Salaried
