Job Summary

The Pharmacy Quality Assurance & Patient Safety Specialist plays an important role in supporting patient safety and continuous quality improvement across pharmacy operations. This position is responsible for collecting, reviewing, and auditing prescription quality event data, validating data accuracy and completeness, identifying potential data quality concerns, and supporting reporting and trend analysis.

The Specialist will work with data from STARS, Walgreens’ patient safety and quality event reporting system, as well as other pharmacy systems. STARS is used to document, review, investigate, and analyze pharmacy quality events and patient safety concerns. The data captured through these systems helps identify trends, inform quality improvement initiatives, improve pharmacy processes, and enhance patient safety.

Working closely with Business Analysts and cross-functional partners, the Specialist helps ensure quality event data is accurate, complete, and actionable. This role provides an opportunity to apply pharmacy knowledge and analytical skills to meaningful work that supports better healthcare outcomes and operational excellence.

Job Responsibilities

  • Audits STARS events – audits events that occur in STARS.

  • Collects data related to prescription quality events through queries of STARS using Business Objects.

  • Downloads the data into spreadsheets, saved on the central Drive, to be analyzed by the Business Analysts.

  • Supports Business Analysts (BA) in data preparation for further analysis by the BA.

  • Communicates findings to Business Analyst for further review.

Basic Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED and at least 1 year of experience as a Certified Pharmacy Technician in a Retail Pharmacy environment.

  • Required certification in PTCB as granted by the appropriate state licensing authority.

  • Experience communicating both verbally (on phone, one-on-one, to groups) and in writing (emails, letters, reports, presentations) to various audiences (work group, team, company management).

  • Basic level skill in Microsoft Excel (for example: opening a workbook, inserting a row, selecting font style and size, formatting cells as currency, using copy, paste and save functions, aligning text, selecting cells, renaming a worksheet, inserting a column, selecting a chart style, inserting a worksheet, setting margins, selecting page orientation, using spell check and/or printing worksheets).

  • Basic skill level in Microsoft PowerPoint (for example: inserting, rearranging, hiding and deleting slides, navigating between slides, increasing list level, adding, centering and editing text, changing views, inserting a table or a note, moving objects, printing outline view and/or running a slide show).

  • Basic level skill in Microsoft Word (for example: opening a document, cutting, pasting and aligning text, selecting font type and size, changing margins and column width, sorting, inserting bullets, pictures and dates, using find and replace, undo, spell check, track changes, review pane and/or print functions).

  • Willing to travel up to 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).



Preferred Qualifications
  • Retail pharmacy experience, including knowledge of pharmacy workflows, prescription processing, and patient safety practices.

  • Experience with Intercom Plus.

  • Experience with STARS or similar quality event reporting and management systems.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Knowledge of SQL to query, extract, and analyze data from large databases

Salary Range: $15 - $$33.65 / Hourly
