This residency program enables residents to achieve their professional goals, become a leader within the profession, provide compassionate care for members of their communities, and contribute to Walgreens Company’s advancements in health care. The main practice site for the resident is a Walgreens community-based specialty pharmacy. The resident will gain experience providing patient care and communicating with prescribers regarding specialty disease states including HIV, HCV, oncology, and solid organ transplant. The secondary practice site is at a high-volume retail location. This pharmacy has a separate patient care center that offers unique opportunities to provide care for patients with a variety of chronic disease states. This residency also emphasizes developing skills related to community outreach and professional advocacy.
The program is academically affiliated with Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. The resident will complete a teaching certificate program and will assist in teaching opportunities and precepting experiences for the University. Upon completion of this program, the resident will have acquired an advanced skill set and be prepared to assume a leadership role in advancing the profession of pharmacy and community pharmacy practice.
Resident Activities:
-Disease state management in HIV/AIDS, hepatitis C, solid organ transplant, and oncology
-Develop and present community outreach presentations for patients, caregivers, and heathcare providers
-Medication therapy management
-Recommend and administer routine and travel immunizations
-Enhance existing or develop new patient care programs
-Design and conduct independent, practice-based research
-Present research findings at regional and national meetings
-Provide clinical instruction to student pharmacists in didactic and experiential environments
-Gain pharmacy business and management leadership skills
-Complete a Teacching Certificate Program

Basic Qualifications
- Doctor of Pharmacy degree from a college or school of pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education
- Ability to obtain pharmacist license within the state of residency within the licensure requirement deadline
- Submission of residency application materials to Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS)
- Individuals must participate in and adhere to the rules of the ASHP Resident Matching Program.
- Certified Immunizer or willing to become an immunizer within 90 days of hire.
