Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program (PGY1), Indianapolis, Indiana
PGY1 residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives. Residents who successfully complete PGY1 residency programs will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership, and education, and be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification in pharmacotherapy (i.e., BCPS), and pursue advanced education and training opportunities including postgraduate year two (PGY2) residencies.
This residency program is a training opportunity for pharmacists to enhance their skill set in the community pharmacy setting with a focus on complex specialty disease states. Graduates will possess the necessary skills needed to secure positions in the following areas specialty pharmacy, ambulatory care practice settings, management opportunities, and academia.
The residency program is conducted across four Walgreens Specialty Pharmacies and two ambulatory care clinics in Indianapolis, IN. These locations offer a variety of innovative clinical pharmacy services to patients who are prescribed complex therapies. At these sites, the resident will work closely with providers and patients to provide affordable specialty drug therapies for patients. Additionally, residents participate and serve patients through community outreach. Other experiences include getting developing leaderships skills through being involved with practice management and development of new services. Lastly, the resident gains experience in the delivery of clinical services, conducting research, precepting students, and participating in a teaching certificate program.
Residency Activities
The resident will have direct influence on patient outcomes through:
• Disease state management programs in oncology, chronic inflammatory diseases, HCV, HIV, transplant, & others with Limited Distribution Drug (LDD) therapies
• Ambulatory care clinic rotations
• Volunteer in an underserved ambulatory care clinic
• Medication Therapy Management services
• Community outreach supporting public health
• Pharmacist administered immunizations
• Develop management and medication distribution skill set
The resident will participate in strengthening practice management and teaching skills through the following:
• Design and conduct a practice-based research project
• Design and conduct a patient centered business plan
• Complete a Teaching Certificate Program
• Serve as a preceptor to pharmacy students
• Participation in in local, state, and national organizations

Candidate Requirements
• Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy
• Completed resident application
• Indiana Pharmacist license within 90 days of the start of the residency program
• Submission of all residency application materials by January 6th to PhORCAS

• Letter of intent explaining why you are pursuing a community pharmacy residency and what you hope to gain from the residency program
