The University of Rhode Island and Walgreens Pharmacy
PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program, Kingston, Rhode Island

PGY1 residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives. Residents who successfully complete PGY1 residency programs will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership, and education, and be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification in pharmacotherapy (i.e., BCPS), and pursue advanced education and training opportunities including postgraduate year two (PGY2) residencies.

Our resident will experience a rich, fulfilling 12-month program, focusing on community practice, ambulatory care and academia. Our residency program provides our resident with the skills and knowledge necessary to become an exemplary community pharmacist, demonstrating professional maturity and a personal philosophy of excellence. Our recent graduates will have developed the clinical, analytical and leadership skills necessary to function as a clinical practitioner in a community pharmacy, ambulatory care setting, or pursue a PGY2 residency.

The mission of this residency program is to provide postgraduate training that enables residents to achieve their professional goals, become a leader within the profession, provide compassionate care for members of their communities and contribute to the Walgreen Company’s advancement in health care.

Our resident’s primary practice site is Walgreens Pharmacy in Riverside, Rhode Island. This store borders the city and town of East Providence, RI and Barrington, RI, respectively. It is less than 10 miles from the capitol of Rhode Island, Providence. All of our residency’s personnel, including the Residency Director, happily live, teach and practice in Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts.
